Citizen Volunteers

Do you have a special skill set or talent you would like to share in the area of  arts and crafts, creative writing, cutting hair, physical education, life coaching skills, or maybe just a good listener?  If so, this may be  a great opportunity for you to play an integral part in the lives of detained and troubled youth.  Volunteers are a valuable resource and are utilized in various ways at the Youth Detention Facility.   Programs include but are not limited to mentoring, tutoring, recreational activities, youth diversion/prevention programs, and chaplaincy. 

Minimum qualifications for Citizen Volunteers:

Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older
  • Must not be on any form of probation or parole for at least one year 
  • Must have a valid California Driver License
  • Must attend a 4 hour Multi-Disciplinary Training annually 
  • Must pass  a background investigation which includes a $32 fee to be fingerprinted 
  • Must test negative for tuberculosis
  • Commit to volunteering a minimum of 4 hours a month
