Social Studies Reports

Probation officers conduct case investigations and prepare predisposition social history reports with unbiased recommendations for the Juvenile Court.

The reports require investigations into the offense and the background of the juvenile. The reports are used by the Courts, District Attorney and Public Defender for negotiations and sentencing.

As part of the investigation, Probation Officers will interview parents/guardians, review police reports and school records as well as obtain victim statements when applicable, for consideration in determining the disposition (sentence) as well as determining appropriate restitution. A validated risk/needs assessment is conducted to ensure recommendations target an offenders individual needs with evidence based interventions, increasing heir chance for success while on Probation.

Officers also prepare reports for disposition and fitness, coordinate psychological evaluations.

The reports are not available to the public; they are considered part of a juveniles personal court file.
